These will be administered based on blood and ultrasound testing.
Injectable fertility medications (Lupron,Gonal F, Follitism, Menopur, Repronex, Ganirelix, Cetrotide, Ovidrel, Novarel) are used in fertility treatments including In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Intrauterine Insemination (IU) cycles.
The medications important in egg (Oocyte) and embryo cryopreservation and donor In Vitro Fertilization cycles are the same as those used for In Vitro Fertilization cycles.
Treatment regimens involving injectable fertility medications can be complex. Prior to starting treatments you will meet with your nurse or physician to discuss how they are administered. Afterwards, you will receive a treatment calendar to help guide you through the process.
At Inovi, your fertility protocol may include certain medications or injections to treat a targeted condition.
Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) Medications
These are used to promote production of follicles and eggs in the woman’s body and to assist in pregnancy.
- Follistim
- Gonal-f
- Bravelle
Other fertility medications are used alone or in combination to increase ovarian follicle activity and estrogen and contain both FSH and LH. These include:
- Menopur
- Repronex
- hMG
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG)
As your fertility specialist tests for additional areas of insufficient hormone levels, it may be found you need medications such as HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin). These serve to act like the natural hormone called Lutenizing Hormone that occurs in a normal menstrual cycle and include ones commonly known as:
- Pregnyl
- Novarel
- Ovidrel
- HCG
Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone (GnRH)
Gonadotropin-releasing Hormone (GnRH) is produced and secreted in a part of your brain called the hypothalamus. It is carried by your blood vessels to your pituitary gland where is serves to act to produce Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinising Hormone (LH). In women this serves to promote maturation and release of the egg for their menstrual cycle while in men it serves to control the sperm.
Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) is a releasing hormone responsible for the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary.
In your treatment your specialist may chose different forms of synthetic GnRH agonists and GnRH antagonists so that he has more control over the ovarian hyperstimulation cycles resulting in the opportunity for better and more predictable outcomes.
Progestrone Medications
Preparing your lining of your uterus to accept the embryo and aid in implantation is important. At times, this process may include progesterone medications soon after the egg retrieval process.
Additionally, if the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycle is successful, you may be prescribed Progesterone for a longer period of time to help maintain your pregnancy.
